The town of Dexter, Maine (named after statesman, Samuel Dexter) is a scenic gem, which quietly bustles the Moosehead Lake Region and around Lake Wassookeag. Here you will find an abundance of sights and activities just a short distance from The Brewster Inn. Visit the Grist Mill Museum and Abbott Museum, The Miller House and the Carr School House. Learn about Dexter history and view antiques from early settlers. (Don't miss the fascinating story of the town meeting on March 17, 1856!) Take home Maine-made items, maple syrup, stained glass, jewelry, local artwork, and other memorabilia from the museum gift shops.

In autumn/winter months....

In autumn there is spectacular leaf peeping in and around Dexter, along with pumpkin picking, apple picking, and fresh cider. In winter, there is snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, ice skating, snowmobiling, ice fishing, sledding, hunting, and much more. Dexter is located next to ITS 85 on The Moosehead Trail. Join us for our annual Winter Festival and enjoy a weekend of township celebrations. The family fun festival includes games and contests, snowmobile parade, radar run, snow sculptures, horse and sled rides, kids' costume parade, fireworks, evening dance, refreshments, and a whole lot of town spirit!

In spring/summer months....

Visit Wayside park Lake views at Ronco Park
Pack a picnic lunch (can be prepared by the Inn upon request) and take a relaxing stroll through Wayside Park, where birds and wildlife abound. Visit Lake Wassookeag and Ronco Park. Here you will find a public beach, swimming, and boat launch. Bring your canoe or kayak and paddle around our beautiful lake. In the evening, take in a spectacular view of Lake Wassookeag at sunset.

Enjoy a golf outing at the Dexter Municipal Golf Course, a challenging 9-hole course with putting green, driving range, and snack bar. It is perfect for those wishing to add a round of golf to their vacation agenda.

Try our local Lakeshore Restaurant for a quick bite of lunch or dinner (open seasonally). It offers casual dining with an assorted menu and terrific chef specials!

Don't miss our annual Wild West Weekend! Round'up for a rootin'-tootin' good time at the Dexter Wild West town festival in late summer. Raffles, refreshments, games, horseshoe tournament, entertainment, chicken BBQ, chili cook-off, and town decorating showdown.

Fun Trivia about Dexter....

Part of the downtown section of Dexter is referenced on the cover of the Stephen King novel Needful Things. It can also be glimpsed during the "Hitchhiker" story of Creepshow 2, as can nearby Dover-Foxcroft.
